Colorado Medicaid Eligibility Calculator (2026)

Colorado splits coverage between Health First Colorado (Medicaid) and CHP+, its separate CHIP. A single adult qualifies for Health First Colorado up to $1,836 a month; CHP+ covers children and pregnancies up to $6,034 for a family of three.

CHP+ for pregnancy too

Colorado is one of the few states that uses CHIP for pregnant adults themselves, not only for unborn children: Health First Colorado covers pregnancy to 195% of the poverty line, and CHP+ pregnancy coverage continues to 260%, matched by the from-conception option.[MACPAC]

For children, Medicaid stops at 142% at every age and CHP+ carries them to 260% (265% with the disregard). CHP+ is a separate program, so a child with other insurance usually cannot enroll.[MACPAC]

Parents and other adults

The parent/caretaker group alone reaches 68% of the poverty line, but Colorado adopted the expansion on January 1, 2014, so parents and adults without children are covered to 138%.[MACPAC][KFF]

Twelve months postpartum

Colorado’s postpartum extension was approved on March 14, 2023, so Health First Colorado and CHP+ pregnancy members stay covered for a year after the pregnancy ends.[KFF]

Applying and long-term care

Apply through Colorado PEAK or a county human services office. Colorado offers no poverty-level or medically needy pathway for older adults; people needing nursing-home or waiver care use the special income level of three times the SSI rate.[MACPAC]

Worked example

A Denver couple expecting a baby (a household of three for Medicaid) earns $4,600 a month. That is 202% of the poverty line for 3.
