Kansas is one of ten states without the expansion: a caretaker in a family of three qualifies only up to $866 a month, and adults without children cannot get KanCare at all. Children are covered up to $5,806, with premiums in the upper bands.

KDHE’s April 2026 standards charge nothing for CHIP up to 166% of the poverty line, then $20 a month per family from 167%, $30 from 192% and $50 from 219% up to the 255% limit.[state] Babies and pregnant women are covered in Medicaid to 171%, children 1–5 to 149%, and older children to 113% with CHIP-funded Medicaid to 133%.[state]

The caretaker table
Kansas’s caretaker limit is 38% of the poverty line including the disregard — $506 for a one-person budget and $1,045 for four.[state] The Governor, who had proposed expansion in every budget since 2019, left it out of her final proposal, citing the 2025 federal Medicaid cuts.[KFF]
Postpartum and newborns
KanCare covers pregnant women and babies to the same 171% line, and the state’s 12-month postpartum extension was approved July 26, 2022.[state][KFF] A medically needy spend-down also exists for pregnant women and children, with a monthly standard of $994 for one person and $1,491 for two in 2026.[state]
