From ballot to coverage

MO HealthNet began processing expansion applications on October 1, 2021, with coverage retroactive to July 1, 2021.[KFF] In 2026 the House passed a resolution to put Medicaid work requirements on the November ballot as a constitutional amendment; a Senate committee reworked it and it failed in the Senate.[KFF]

Pregnancy through CHIP

Missouri covers pregnancy in Medicaid to 196% of the poverty line and, above that, through a CHIP pregnancy group and the from-conception option up to 300%.[MACPAC] Children’s Medicaid runs to 196% for babies and 148% for older children; the separate CHIP takes children to 300%.[MACPAC]

Postpartum

Missouri’s 12-month postpartum extension was approved November 14, 2023.[KFF] Because Missouri covers pregnancy through CHIP up to 300% of the poverty line, the postpartum year reaches higher-income mothers than in most states.[MACPAC]

A 209(b) state for older adults

Missouri’s aged/disabled, poverty-level and medically needy standards all sit at about 85% of the poverty line, and its long-term-care special income level is 130% rather than the usual 222%.[MACPAC] Apply online through the Department of Social Services.
