A trigger bill that stalled

West Virginia has covered expansion adults since January 1, 2014.[KFF] In March 2025 the House Finance Committee passed a bill to end expansion coverage if the federal match is reduced; the Rules Committee moved it to the inactive calendar.[KFF]

Postpartum

West Virginia’s postpartum extension was approved September 8, 2022.[KFF] Newborns are deemed eligible to 185% under Medicaid or 300% under WVCHIP, matching the pregnancy layers.[MACPAC]

West Virginia offers no poverty-level group for older adults: SSI recipients are covered automatically, others may spend down to the medically needy level, and long-term-care applicants qualify with income up to $2,982 a month.[MACPAC]

Applying

Apply through WV PATH. Parents have their own group only to 14% of the poverty line; older adults can use a medically needy spend-down near 15%.[MACPAC][MACPAC]
