FAMIS above Medicaid
Medicaid covers children and pregnant women to 143% of the poverty line; FAMIS (children) and the CHIP pregnancy group, plus the from-conception option, extend coverage to 200%.[MACPAC]
| Group | FPL | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adults 19–64 | 138% | $1,836 | $2,489 | $3,142 | $3,795 | $5,102 |

| Children | 205% | $2,727 | $3,697 | $4,668 | $5,638 | $7,579 |
Expansion with a trigger
Enrollment opened November 1, 2018 for coverage starting January 1, 2019, and a trigger law would end the expansion if federal funding falls.[KFF]
Postpartum through a waiver
Virginia extended postpartum coverage to 12 months through a Section 1115 waiver.[KFF] Mothers covered by Medicaid to 143% or by FAMIS MOMS to 200% both keep coverage for the postpartum year.[MACPAC]
Children follow the same two-step path as pregnancy: Medicaid to 143% of the poverty line at every age, then FAMIS to 200%. Newborns of covered mothers are deemed eligible to 143% under Medicaid or 200% under FAMIS MOMS.[MACPAC]
Older adults and applying
Virginia is a 209(b) state: its own aged/disabled standard is about 74% of the poverty line, it offers an 80% poverty-level pathway, and its medically needy level varies by locality up to about 47%.[MACPAC] Apply through Cover Virginia.
