Healthy Michigan Plan
Michigan implemented the expansion on April 1, 2014, three months after most early states.[KFF] Parents have their own group to 54% of the poverty line, and the expansion covers them above it.[MACPAC]
| Group | FPL | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adults 19–64 | 138% | $1,836 | $2,489 | $3,142 | $3,795 | $5,102 |
| Pregnancy | 200% | $2,660 | $3,607 | $4,554 | $5,500 | $7,394 |
| Children | 217% | $2,887 | $3,914 | $4,941 | $5,968 | $8,022 |
Children and pregnancy
Regular Medicaid covers babies to 195% of the poverty line and children 1–18 to 160%; CHIP funds extend every age to 212% within Medicaid, without a separate CHIP.[MACPAC] Pregnancy coverage, including the from-conception option, reaches 195%.[MACPAC]
Postpartum
Michigan’s 12-month postpartum extension was approved on April 14, 2022.[KFF] Pregnancy coverage, including from-conception coverage, runs to 195% of the poverty line ($4,554 a month for three).[MACPAC]
Older Michiganders who receive SSI are enrolled in Medicaid automatically because Michigan is a Section 1634 state, and people needing nursing-home or waiver care qualify with income up to three times the SSI rate — $2,982 a month in 2026.[MACPAC][SSA]
Applying
Apply through MI Bridges, run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. For older adults Michigan offers a 100% poverty-level group, and its medically needy level varies by region (up to about 31% of the poverty line).[MACPAC]
