Eligibility checklist
Three layers for children
Medicaid covers infants to 200% of the poverty line and older children to 150%; CHIP-funded Medicaid fills part of that band; and the separate CHIP carries every age to 300% (305% with the disregard).[MACPAC]
Young adults get their own line: 19- and 20-year-olds qualify to 150%, above the 133% that applies to adults generally.[MACPAC] Pregnancy and from-conception coverage reach 200%.[MACPAC]
| Group | FPL | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adults 19–64 | 138% | $1,836 | $2,489 | $3,142 | $3,795 | $5,102 |
| Pregnancy | 205% | $2,727 | $3,697 | $4,668 | $5,638 | $7,579 |

Different lines for age and disability
For people who qualify by age or disability, MassHealth uses a poverty-level limit of 100% for people 65 and older but 133% for people under 65 with disabilities, and its medically needy spend-down uses separate counting rules for the two groups.[MACPAC]
Postpartum MassHealth
Massachusetts withdrew a pending waiver request in February 2022 and instead adopted the 12-month postpartum extension through its state plan, approved later that year.[KFF] Newborns of MassHealth mothers are deemed eligible to 200% of the poverty line.[MACPAC]
Applying
Apply through the Massachusetts Health Connector, which screens for MassHealth and subsidized private plans in one application. The parent/caretaker group matches the expansion at 133%.[MACPAC]
